Sixes is a short-field version of the game that will be played for the first time in the Olympics in 2028. We're moving towards Sixes in order to increase the pace, touches, and overall skill development of our younger players. All players will have the space to learn BOTH offense and defense, in a less complicated field game system. Smaller teams also means more reps, lower coach to player ratios and more time to focus on individual skill development. We will have 3 different groups based on skill prerequisite and specific developmental goals.
When determining which level you will play, we will factor in age, pre-requisite skill level, overall confidence and what we feel makes most developmental sense for the player.
ES (3rd-6th): Beginner Level. Focus is on developing stick skills at a running pace. Scooping, catching, switching hands, throwing, shooting while keeping your feet moving.
MS 1 (5th-8th): Beginner Intermediate Level. Focus is on developing stick skills at a running pace. Scooping, catching, throwing, switching hands, shooting, cradling while keeping your feet moving. Players who still need to work on gaining individual skill confidence at full speed are recommended to stay at this level.
MS 2 (6th-8th): Intermediate Level. This is for players who are able to catch, throw, shoot, switch, cradle at their full speed with confidence. The focus of this group will be Lax IQ. Offensive concepts: Fast break spacing, Sweeps and Picks, Drive and dumps, Off Ball movement, Field vision. Defensive concepts: Proper positioning, Slides, Man Down, Backer Zone.

A unique approach
As the fastest growing sport in the world, Lacrosse has the added challenge of having to meet players at many different levels of experience and age. There is a high degree of unique and detailed motor skill involved in achieving the basics of lacrosse. These aren't difficult movements, they're just new. It often takes kids up to two years to integrate these movements into their toolbox. Once they do, it becomes a whole new sport.
Our program system is designed to meet players where they're at in this process without rushing them. So often, new players are tossed into the mix and forced to learn the basics at a pace that doesn't allow for the attention they need. This leads to bad habits that are incredibly difficult to break. At the same time, more experienced players have to slow down their pace to accommodate those who are still learning the basics. No one wins.
Each step in lacrosse skill development is a building block that needs to be developed before being added to. Think about it like a karate program, you wouldn't throw a beginner into a black belt class. There is a sequenced system that requires certain bench marks before moving on. This system is designed with age in mind but is flexible based on overall experience.
